ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNITY RESILIENCY

Thomas P. Miller and Associates, LLC, (TPMA) is a growing national economic development, workforce development, and evaluation consulting firm, seeking a team-oriented professional with project management, writing, and research capabilities to support the firm’s Economic Development and Community Resiliency Team. The Project Consultant will provide support for all key elements of economic development work such as economic data collection and analysis, desktop and best practice research, strategic planning, meeting facilitation support, stakeholder engagement activities, project coordination, and preparing written reports and other deliverables. The position will be based in Indianapolis, IN.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication, writing, and time management skills and will be highly self-motivated and inquisitive. The candidate should be familiar with economic development processes and projects throughout Indiana and be comfortable with speaking to a wide variety of local elected officials, executives, and the public.  Note that in-state and out-of-state travel may be required and estimated at 20-25%.  
 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, Economics, Planning or related field. 

  • Graduate strongly degree preferred. 

  • 1-3 years of experience in economic/community development, and/or employment with a related organization preferred. 

Job Responsibilities

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage projects for on-time/ in-budget project completion 

  • Lead drafting of written reports/deliverables and preparation of presentations 

  • Propose ideas for recommendations/conclusions 

  • On-site project support, including transcription and translation of discussions into report narrative

  • Project coordination and administrative tasks

  • Maintain professional client communications focused on day-to-day project management 

  • Assist with business development meetings/calls and proposals 

  • Assist with building customized methodologies

  • Conduct primary and secondary research focused on economic development, best practices and policies

  • Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to support strategy development 

Skills and Abilities

  • Efficient project management skills to be applied in a fast-paced, customer-oriented environment

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Enthusiastic, willing to learn quickly, and displays a fervent sense of initiative

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to balance multiple priorities

  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access

  • Internet research skills via online databases, publications, and company websites

  • Ability to work independently and in a team to complete tasks on time and solve problems quickly 

  • Expertise in document formatting/ graphic design a plus

  • Knowledge of one or more of the following is preferred: economic development, including technology-based development, entrepreneurship, agriculture and rural development
