Thomas P. Miller and Associates, LLC, (TPMA) is a growing national economic development, workforce development, and evaluation consulting firm, seeking a team-oriented professional to provide research, writing, and project management support for the firm’s Economic Development and Community Resiliency Team. The Project Associate will provide support for all key elements of economic development work such as economic data collection and analysis, desktop and best practice research, strategic planning, meeting facilitation support, stakeholder engagement activities, project coordination, and preparing written reports and other deliverables. The position will be based in Indianapolis, IN.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent writer with strong time management and communication skills. The candidate will also be highly self-motivated, inquisitive, and interested in learning about a range of topics and projects. Note that in-state and out-of-state travel may be required and estimated at 10-15%.  

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business/Public Administration, Communications, English or related field 

  • 1-2 years of experience in economic/community development, and/or employment with a related organization preferred. 

Job Responsibilities

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conduct primary and secondary research focused on economic development, best practices and policies

  • Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to support strategy development  

  • Support multi-faceted projects effectively for on-time completion of high-quality deliverables

  • Stakeholder coordination activities, including professional communications with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and organizations

  • Prepare and/or contribute to written reports and other client-requested deliverables

  • On-site project support, including transcription and translation of discussions into report narrative 

  • Development and maintenance of client relationships. 

  • Administrative tasks related to day-to-day basic office management support. 

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be enthusiastic, willing to learn quickly, and display a fervent sense of initiative

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required

  • Attention to detail and ability to balance priorities in a fast-paced, customer-oriented environment 

  • Experience with quantitative or qualitative data analysis is highly preferred 

  • Internet research skills via online databases, publications, and company websites

  • Ability to work independently and in a team to complete tasks on time and solve problems quickly

  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
